War of Clans

Concept Document

Game balance

Nevertheless, with six clans for a strategic game with eight units, that’s 48 units that must be balanced (don’t forget that they don’t have the same statistics!). Therefore, I will start by creating four clans (Humans, Undead, Dwarves and Orcs). Unlike elves and demons, their gameplay is very simple to understand and flows naturally.

Now let’s take a look at the different categories:
– Speed
– Health
– Cost
– Crowd controls
– Distance

Having shooters (or even long range) is very powerful against slow enemies and very weak against fast enemies. Having fast units is very interesting when the enemy is playing very expensive units in a single line. CCs are designed to be really long. Therefore, they are extremely strong against resistant enemies but not very interesting against fragile enemies.

What does this mean? Well, it helps to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the clans! This allows us to guess which clans are doing better against others. For example, with their speed and low cost, we can consider that Orcs are powerful against Dwarves. Of course, this is something that should be tested and balanced. Clan counters are desirable, but one clan should never be able to win over another every time.
